A Fisherman's Tale

When I was a young kid, I never fancy fish as a meal. I don't like, it. Really! I love pork and chicken, instead. But we can only have them twice a week. Inay would always tell me to eat whatever is being served on the table, reminding me how lucky I am for still having food during mealtime. Our house back then was near the shore of Sta. Rita Aplaya (Batangas). Fish, fish, fish--- everywhere. It is the most convenient ulam Inay could buy without having the hassle of going to market. Majority of men in our area were fishermen. My father, once, too, was a FISHERMAN.

Tatay was a son of a fisherman. His brothers, once in their lives, were also fishermen. When he graduated in elementary, he was asked by his teacher if he's going to go to high school. He was supposed to be their class Valedictorian. He told her, no. Because Mamay Silangan(my paternal grandfather) told him to stop schooling for financial reasons. "Mangingisda na lang po ako." But in his heart, he wanted to go to high school. And maybe, to college, too.

When he was a young man, he fell in love with a fisherman's daughter. My Mamay Kanluran (maternal grandfather) was not happy with this. To him, a fisherman's daughter marrying another fisherman is not a good combi. But what the heck! Theirs' was a love against all odds.

So, the two became one. And one, became two, then became three--- yearly! That's Ate Amor, Kuya Gil and Ate Armie. The fisherman's income was not enough anymore. But Inay never believed that they were a bad combination. And neither was my father. By that time, Tatay shifted from being a fisherman to a construction worker in Manila. He used to tell me that he's one of the builders of those structures in Manila Bay's reclaimed area (CCP Complex). He also worked for a while in Meralco. I also used to see pictures of him in Guam. I don't know what he did there. But definetely, our FISHERMAN was out of the sea.

By the time Kuya Deo and I were born, Tatay was already an OFW. He used to tell me stories of his hardships when applying for a job abroad. How he ate buko ice drop for lunch just so not to miss the interview. He spent almost 20 years of his life working in the Middle East under numerous companies---ARAMCO being the longest. I think he worked as a pipefitter there. One month for every year, he would spend it with us in the Philippines. He sees to it that everytime he comes home, there's a special occasion to celebrate-- a graduation, Christmas or New Year. And I was wondering why everytime he goes home, he'll ask Inay to prepare fish dishes--- sinaing na tulingan, especially!

When I was 13 years old, we transferred to San Pascual (Batangas) where he built his trophy--- our house. This time, no shoreline. No worries during typhoon, but definetely no majestic site during sunset. But one thing did not change--- we still have fish on our plate most of the time.

When I was in college, I made Tatay face his most dreadful fear--- I had a boyfriend at 19! I still keep that letter he sent me and i can vividly remember his lines: "Binigyan mo ako ng isipin gabi-gabi." I think he was more open to the idea that Ariel Rivera was my boyfriend rather than a real boy-person. Anyway, it only lasted for over a year and it was such a relief on his part that it ended soon.

When I was about to enter med school, he made me promise one thing: that I will finish it to the very end. When I bought my basic med books (through his money, of course!), he browsed some of its' pages. I could see in him the thirst for knowledge--- that very thing he was denied of because of their financial status back then. He asked me: "Anak, ano ba yung CELL?" I don't know how I was able to explain that to him using the simplest words in Tagalog. During our exchanges of letters, I told him how hard my subjects in medicine were. He wrote me back: "Anak, ikaw ang magtrabaho dito sa Saudi, at ako ang mag-aaral ng Medisina. Malalaman mo ang ibig sabihin ng salitang MAHIRAP." From then on, I never complained.

I was in second year in Medicine when he finished his contract in ARAMCO and never renewed. There and then, I noticed how he grew old. How his ulcer and arthritis limit his capacity to work. He still love sinaing na tulingan now more than ever.

Surprisingly, when I got married and lived in Manila, I kinda' loved FISH, too! And I began to miss Nemo's family from the sea. Now, whenever I see fish on a plate, I remember Tatay--- how a fisherman's son bacame a Pediatrician's father. And how proud I am to be a FISHERMAN'S DAUGHTER!

Microsoft intends to release Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview to invited guests who register to sign up for Office 2010 CTP Program only by July 2009. Office 2010 was previously known by codename Office 14 (taken cue from its version), and wrongly assume to be Office 2009. The setup installer of both 32bit (x86) and 64bit (x64) Office 2010 Technical Preview 1 (TP 1) has been leaked to BT network. The leaked Office 2010 Technical Preview 1 has the version of 14.0.4006.1010, a pre-trial version provided to premium Microsoft partners.

It’s unclear whether it is the leaked Office 2010 TP1 build will be the version that is going to be released officially by Microsoft in July. And it’s still unclear yet whether Microsoft will make available publicly for Office 2010 Beta downloads, which is said to be will be having 2 betas - Beta 1 in July 2009 and another Beta 2 in November 2009. The betas is said to be different from Technical Preview, where TP is just meant as an engineering milestone for the development of Office 2010 and related products that leading to RTM that will reach in July 2009, according to Office 2010 IT Blog. Office 2010 is expected to RTM and released as final product in March 2010, with the exception of Exchange Server 2010, where Exchange Server 2010 beta already available from official download links.

The setup installer of the leaked download will install Microsoft Office Plus 2010 edition, with Access 2010, Excel 2010, InfoPath 2010, OneNote 2010, Outlook 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Publisher 2010, and Word 2010. Project Professional 2010, SharePoint Designer 2010 and Visio Professional 2010 are also included in the leaked RAR archive download. Office 2010 supports Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Important note is that Office2010 TP 1 is still in early stage of development, and may contain bugs, although most individual programs such as Word 2010 and Excel 2010 are usable in everyday life. It’s also interesting to know that Office 2007, the predecessor of Office 2010, is version 12. Office 2010 will be version 14, skipping version 13, the number that Microsoft assumes may be not so lucky.

i could’ve said anything else but the problem’s they’ve already done what ive said a lot of times already but still no action from the said site. And for few responses from other members… Now, the thing is… the old guy has made another two in total of three fake accounts of the innocent gal… I dont know whatelse or how to help them but to ask you everbody who knows how to stop this indescent act towards this poor gal… I feel pity and i wanna help them as much as i could… Thru the net, the power of everybody in here, my contacts or not.. please do help us stopping this kind of people who impersonates and bring dirt on other person’s name. Her family’s also at stake in here, right? Please Boycott Boyet Fajardo's RTW Labels

Last March 13, 2009, Filipino Fashion Designer Angelino Boyet Fajardo created a scene, to the shock and horror of shoppers and employees of Duty Free Philippines alike, when a cashier politely asked for his ID after presenting his unsigned credit card. This is a standard operating procedure applicable to all stores to verify ownership of the credit card and prevent fraud.

Suddenly, the designer reportedly got furious and, at the top of his voice, started berating the cashiers and managers of Duty Free Philippines. He might have thought a celebrated person like he is, with all his accolades and fame, has gone unrecognized by the cashier. A new well-trained casual worker who is carefully doing his job. The designer further shocked bystanders by cursing the people there with words such as leche and p...ina, while angrily expressing surprise why the people there did not recognize him.

Store managers and officers were sought to appease the matter, explaining to him that it is all included as a standard operating procedure in credit card payment for the safety, not only for the company but also his own. Ignoring all this, he pulled out his phone and threatened to call on high positioned government officials whom he allegedly knew, like doing a power-play to make these people realize how important he is. He went on saying "Mga leche kayo! Hindi niyo ako kilala? Ako si Boyet Fajardo! At itong p...ina na babaeng ito (pointing to a lady officer) at ang baklang ito (pointing to the cashier) ay walang kwentang mga tao! I want them fired!!!"

His yelling and berating went on and on. He cannot calm down and as he appeared to have bloodshot eyes, like that of a drunk person and or under an influence. He threw his passport on the cashier's face and later intentionally stepped on the cashier's foot to say "Ay sorry, di ko sinasadya!" He goes on to say, that only if the cashier kneel down before him and/or allow him to freely slap the cashier's face, may he get satisfied.

The ill-fated cashier, with all the onlookers watching, stand down and just simply gave in to probably he thought would end the matter. Crying in shame he slowly knelt down and apologize (for actually doing his job) before this self proclaimed GOD, perhaps for fear of loosing his job. No slapping was made to the cashier's face but the incident landed a harsher and reverberating sound to the faces of the lesser people of this society.

Fortunately, his inhumane acts were caught on CCTV in which a portion was featured in YouTube.

With such disrespect, discrimination and humiliation towards a good worker, a less fortunate person and a fellow Filipino...

1. We are calling all citizens to stop patronizing Boyet Fajardo's RTW labels such as Substance in SM department stores, Boyet Fajardo and Initials in Landmark and Robinson's department stores.
2. We are calling on all malls to pull out or stop distributing his products in your outlets.
4. We are calling on the Commission on Human Rights, Department of Labor and Employment and all human rights and labor activists to take appropriate legal actions on this matter.
5. We are calling all foreign embassies to deny him of entry to your respective countries.
6. We are calling on the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines to dishonor him of his membership and profession.

...To give him a lesson and to help us stop him from victimizing the underprivileged over and over and over again.
